Keyframing Lesson

Overall I think this went quite well to refresh my knowledge on using keyframes in Premiere Pro. I did struggle a bit getting my head around the whole concept of bringing a second head in and making it collide with the first head but I managed to make it work in a different way.

Editing Styles Lesson

I enjoyed this task as it allowed me to make my own choices in cutting footage to go with a song. It was interesting seeing how many different clips there were and how they could be used to tell the story of the music. To make this work I used markers in final cut pro to know where in the video to make my cuts in time with the music. I personally thing I did quite well with this, although it was rather long at 3 mins.

Colour Isolation

To make this video I used Final Cut Pro. I used colour boards to allow me to achieve this. First I made a colour mask for the red coat and selected as much as that as possible. After that I made a shape mask to track the coats (see image below) this removed any additional red in the scene too. Overall I think this went very well and with a bit more time I could get it perfect.

Multicam Edit

To make this I used Final Cut Pro’s ‘synchronise’ feature. This automatically syncs the selected video clip with the selected audio, you can do multiple of either if you wanted. To allow for the best result I did each individual clip with the audio and then just hid certain parts of each clip to create it, as seen in the photo of my timeline below. I’m very happy with how it came out overall. I also quite enjoyed the ease of not having to worry about any separate audio tracks as it was all attached to the video clips. Chances are I will end up using this feature again in the future. I did notice a small blip at 0:49 in the final video too which I forgot to fix when I rewatched it.

Gameshow Multicam Edit

This edit didn’t go to plan due to poor audio and video quality. The main issue with the audio was the fact that we used 2 cameras with microphones mounted on top. We did have a boompole although that didn’t end up recording to my micro SD card. In terms of the video quality the main issue there was the very high ISO (12800) due to the low light. This made the footage look very grainy and low quality hence making it unusable to sync. The main reason we couldn’t sync was due to a lack of a clapper board because we had no way to sync both audio and video, despite some being on the same track. Overall this still has been a valuable experience and now I know what not to do if I ever do this again.

Split Screen Edit

To make this clip I once again synchronised the video and audio in Final Cut. After this I watched through the clips to try and find the ideal point in which I want to make the split screen begin and end. After this I then positioned the video to get it to be as even as possible, then after that I cropped them videos. To make the white background I just added a custom colour and cropped 10px in to each video to frame it nicely. Overall I think this went very well.

Music Video Recreation

In this video we recreated the music video for the song ‘Walk’ by Kwabs. Overall it was very fun to film and put together and gives me some ideas for what I want my final video to look like. For this video I was doing the camera work and I was very happy with what I filmed and how I filmed it despite the windy conditions.

Storyboard Practise

In this activity we made a mockup of a storyboard, I was unable to scan it in though so I a photo will have to do. Overall I think this went all right, it helped me think about what camera angles I wanted to consider using. Despite not being the best artist ever I have a vague understanding of what shots I would like to use and would consider redrawing it to make some sense.

Lyric Video Creation

In this we used a tutorial to make a text based music video. Overall this went all right for a first attempt. It was quite laggy, most likely due to the generator I used for the background. The main thing I need to work on is getting all the lyrics placed at the right time in the right place.

Handwritten Lyric Video

In this video I made a lyric video for a small section of the Chainsmokers song ‘Paris’. The way I made it is by adding the x-ray preset to the clip, then lowering the brightness and contrast to make the text look white. I think it came out all right although I’m not too happy how the text looks due to the size of it and the fact that it was far too small. If I did it again I would put less words on larger paper with a larger pen size too to further increase readability. I also would make sure my paper is as flat as possible to make sure when I key it out it is most effective.

Mirror Effect Tutorial

This is now one of my favourite effects to use because the possibilities are purely endless and its also very simple to do. I made this using Apple Motion. I just drag the effect called ‘mirror’ onto the timeline below my clip and then I can move it around to wherever I would like. Overall this went very well and can be very amusing to watch.

Trippy Effect Tutorial

I also quite like this effect as there is many ways to change it up by moving a few sliders. It can be quite time consuming though to make it  look right so I personally don’t think I would be able to utilise it in my video. However I did enjoy making it and think it came out looking pretty good.

Digital Storyboard

To make this I used a software called Canva and did a mini storyboard for the music video for ‘Walk’ by Kwabs. I used a variety of google images to get the backgrounds and most of the other assets were the built in ones from Canva. I think this looks all right and gets the basic point across although for my final music video I think it would require a lot more sheets to make it cover the full video.

Frame Rate

In this lesson we learnt about how different frame rates are used in a music video. Using the Canon 800D we filmed 3 clips at different frame rates, and also experimented with slow-mo. Overall it came out alright minus the last clip being too fast, due to this we had to slow it down so much so to the point where it ended up only being 12.5 fps instead of the 50 fps we filmed in which wasn’t ideal.

Glowing Lines Effect

To make this effect I used Apple Motion and used the basic airbrush tool. In Each frame I moved the line a little bit further, the only issue with this is because I was time limited the lines move far too quickly for my liking. If I were to do it again I would most likely leave some frames between each movement or just move it very slowly.  Overall I am happy with how this came out just small improvments could make it better.

Glowing Lines Example

In this video I utilised what I learnt in the glowing lines effect tutorial to apply it to a real world clip that we filmed. I was initially going to put it over music but I didn't have enough time to do that. Overall I think some of the lines are a bit too big which makes it go really quick and can almost be unnoticeable. As well as this I don't think After Effects was properly configured as it ended up rendering a lot of just black screen after the video. However I would like to use this in my final video.
